Be in the SPOTLIGHT at The Sharon Playhouse

Sharon Playhouse (SP) volunteers love live theater and creating community together. If you enjoy theater and love building community then the Playhouse is where you belong!

The Sharon Playhouse passionately seeks volunteers who bring a style of service that is solution-oriented, professional, engaged, and welcoming.

Volunteers not only become an important part of the SP culture, they also touch thousands of lives from all walks of life. Our Volunteers come from diverse backgrounds and lifestyles, and when volunteering, enjoy a most enriching, rewarding experience: outstanding professional theater performances, amazing people, and opportunities to collaborate and connect with like-minded friends. 

Volunteer Opportunities

USHERS: 

Reporting to the House Manager 60 minutes prior to the start of show, Ushers:

  • Warmly welcome patrons to the theater;

  • Assist patrons to assigned seats;

  • Ensure the comfort of all patrons pre-show, during intermission,  and post-show;

  • Stuff and distribute programs;

  • Assist with merchandise sales and refreshments during intermission when needed, and

  • Collect programs and clear left behind debris at the end of the performance.

PARKING LOT ATTENDANTS:

Reporting to the Parking Lot Manager 90 minutes prior to the start of show, Parking Lot Attendants:

  • Warmly welcome patrons in vehicles to the theater’s parking lot;

  • Direct patrons to an assigned parking spot in the lot;

  • Help direct patrons to The Olsen or The Bok theater and the Playhouse’s  amenities (e.g., entrance, box office, bar, etc.)

When scheduled to do a shift, SP Volunteers receive: 

  • A complimentary ticket to the Playhouse performance;

  • A complimentary drink at the bar;

  • Community service hours toward applicable school-related programs;

  • A working knowledge and understanding of Northwest Connecticut’s historic, prominent, and professional, nonprofit theater. 

  • Opportunities to meet a dynamic and diverse group of supporters who appreciate the arts and the positive impact it has on the community.
